As a wedding photographer, there are many tools that you can use to attract new clients to your website – which brings you more bookings and increases your overall profit. Not only can you network with vendors, but you can build a following on social media and attract new readers to your blog. It can sometimes be challenging to continuously attract new readers to to your blog if you don’t know where to start.
Here at ShootDotEdit, we’re invested in teaching photographers how to run successful businesses. In addition to providing photography editing services to wedding photographers, we love to provide you with the best ways to improve your business and meet new clients! Here are some tips and tricks that you can use to create a strategy to attract new readers to your blog.
Identify your Target Audience
As you focus on blogging, it is important to identify who your target market is. Your blog can be a gateway to your website for many people, and you want to make sure that you are attracting the right viewers. While it may be simple to create blog posts focused on photography tips and tricks, be sure to understand the type of readers who will be viewing each post. By posting photography related posts, you will increase your photographer following. Unless shooting other photographers’ weddings is in line with your target market, be sure that you are posting content that will relate to your target market. Take time to determine who your ideal clients are and create content that will keep them engaged. Also keep in mind that you want to reach more clients like them.
Tip: Consider creating an additional blog for your educational photography related posts. This way, you can share that specific blog with photographers and keep it separated from your posts that are meant to help you book more weddings.
Be consistent
Even if you do not have many followers reading your blog at first, that does not mean that you should stop blogging. This is one of the most important times to be consistent in your posts – consistency ensures that the readers you do have will become loyal followers! If you gain their trust and prove that you have a relatable blog, you will begin to gain new followers. Select a day of the week that you want to blog each week, and keep to this schedule. You want to manage your readers’ expectations, so once you begin posting on a consistent timeframe, be sure to stick to it!
Tip: If you want to blog more than once a week, consider starting a personal series to connect with potential clients in a different way. For example, Phoenix Wedding Photographer Melissa Jill created a personal series and shared her favorite memorable moments that occurred each week. She titled the series, Frivolous Friday, and these simple posts capture her upbeat personality through images and thoughts of her past weekly events.
Use social media
Just as it is important to blog consistently, it is crucial that you make an effort to constantly update social media with your new blog posts. Use your social media platforms to promote your blog and direct viewers to your website. Evaluate your social media channels to determine which are most effective for your business, and focus on creating a consistent schedule with those. For example, if you post through Instagram, choose a time each week that you will post a photo that entices viewers to visit your blog. Include the blog post link in your Instagram profile so that it is easily accessible.
When using Facebook, rather than posting all of your favorite images from your past wedding onto your page, choose your favorite one. If viewers are able to stay on your Facebook page to view all of the images they could find on your blog post, it does not give them a reason to follow your blog. Select a couple of images to share on Facebook, and include the blog post link below the images, making your blog easily accessible to viewers.

Tip: As you post images relating to the weddings you photographed, be sure to tag your couples in them! This will increase the number of viewers that will see the post, which will add to your following.
Optimize content for SEO
Along with using social media to attract new readers, optimize your content so that you are findable on search engines such as Google. The easier that it is for potential clients to find you through keywords, the more likely it is that you will reach a larger audience. Avoid using keywords that are too broad or that do not relate to your target market. The higher you rank on Google, the more potential clients you will begin seeing on your blog!
If you use WordPress for your blogging, use plugins such as Yoast to help optimize your SEO. Think about the keywords and phrases that your ideal clients may search for when looking for a photographer. Include these in your meta description and throughout your post to help your blog become more findable on Google.

Encourage Sharing
As you create posts that provide value to your readers, this is a great opportunity to encourage them to share it. If some of your posts highlight your most recent wedding, reach out to that couple and motivate them to share it with their friends and family. Having your couples share posts with their friends and family is valuable, because they could attract clients similar to themselves, giving you more ideal clients to work with!
