When it comes to time spent on income earned, mini sessions are king. A survey of some of our ShootDotEdit photographers revealed that a successful mini session campaign around the holidays can make or break the year for many small businesses.

3 Tips to Achieve Mini Session Successes

Here are three tips we learned from other Professional Wedding and Portrait Photographers for making these sessions work year-round — especially during the holidays.

1. Variety

“The key to our success year after year to get repeat clients is to offer a variety of locations with different settings.”

Katie Van Buren with Van Buren Photography

That change was based on feedback Katie received from repeat clients that wanted something different each year.

2. Discounts

“We offer a weekend of mini sessions at a discounted price for past clients, or social media fans to have a chance at updated photos with the ones they love for the holiday season.”

Joe and Darryl Ann Geske (Salt and Pine Seattle Wedding Photographers)

The Geske’s say they usually make as much income as they do on a wedding day just by shooting a day of sessions!

3. Freebies

“I include a free mini session with every wedding so every client can have a family session every year for free.”

Aaron Morris with Beyond the Frame Photography

Aaron doesn’t mind giving away his time for the shoot because he makes more money on the back end, selling the print products and securing a repeat customer.

Other photographers told us they make extra money by targeting businesses for headshot, product, and branding photography.

Are you doing enough photo mini sessions throughout the slower winter months? Keep your income rolling in with holiday-themed mini sessions and print sales all season long!
